Yesterday I went to Missoula with a friend. We had burgers at Red Robin for lunch. They were soooo good. I had a great day. Missoula is about an hour and a half from Kalispell. I rarely get out of this (socked in) valley so it was a good day to see sunshine.

Why is hair not just hair? What does it matter if it's long, short, grey, blonde, highlighted, curled, straightened, layered, bobbed, textured, spiked, ornamented, braided, extended, shaved, etc?

I don't know but if if doesn't match my style, personality, face shape, coloring, lifestyle and femininity and if it doesn't match up to who I want other people to perceive me to be it just feels wrong.

The whole thing is quite ridiculous.

I watched "The Book of Eli" movie last night. I was completely disappointed. It's about a man who spent 30 years reading the Bible and praying daily and totally missed the point. In true Hollywood style the Bible was reduced to be a good person and God will protect you.

I don't know where to start to catch up.

Recently I began renting a room in a house from a lady who is a friend of one of my church friends. So I am basically living with strangers, but so far everything is great!

Before that I spent a year on a small farm at the base of a mountain 25 miles from here (Kalispell, MT). I took care of animals (goats, mules, chickens) in exchange for rent. I lived in a guesthouse (separate living quarters). The lady who owns the place was not around much so I was pretty isolated.

Yesterday I went with a friend to Missoula. It was the first time I have been out of this valley since I flew home to MN last Christmas. I needed to get out. It is a (beautiful) two hour drive. Missoula is bigger than Kalispell so we went to the Mall, Michaels (craft store), Old Navy, Barnes & Noble, and we had lunch at Fudruckers. It was an awesome day!

I have been in Montana for two years now. The last year I spent in Columbia Falls on a small farm at the base of a mountain. Now I have moved back to Kalispell in the middle of the Flathead Valley. I am happy to have all the luxuries I have been missing; cell coverage, internet, laundy, garbage, etc. I am close to friends, church, and work. I feel better going into winter now.

Yesterday I saw a big white pickup with the word REPENT in red across the tailgate. Under that, it said believe and go to heaven or you will burn in hell. It had the name of a church on the door. (I was horrified.)

Something my pastor said in a sermon struck me...

When talking about going on a missions trip, he described treating people in a foreign culture with kindness, respect, curiosity, willingness to understand, etc.

I think that is the way the church should treat America too.

This afternoon I watched a movie about East Germany. I am embarrassed that I know so little about it. I was 17 when the wall came down but even then it didn't mean much to me. Now, I look at my friends who are supportive of Socialism here in the US and it angers me. Anyway, it is a very good movie about a frightening and dark topic.

Redeeming Love

I just read Francine River's "Redeeming Love", a novel based on the story of Hosea. It is a somewhat sad story about a man who, like Hosea, marries a prostitute. I was amazed at the insight of the author who told the story mostly from the wife's perspective. To get into a mind like that and make her real and easy to relate to is awesome.

I took a class today and learned how to pull a trailer. I can hitch & unhitch, put chains on and off, drive forward and backward, turn around, and use hand signals to direct drivers. I have never done this before. It is so cool.

I admit my grammar isn't great, but I hope I never pick up this thing I hear all the time. Quite a few people I know here in Montana omit helping verbs. For example: "That trash needs dumped." or " Those papers need filed."

Angel was a Great Pyrenees who lived on the farm I am staying at. She was good company and very protective. Most of the time she was my only companion often sleeping next to my bed or in my living room. I will miss her.

I read a book about a bodybuilder. It was interesting and entertaining, but no I am not taking up weight lifting. This was the first book I really enjoyed reading just for the sake of reading in a long long time. Maybe I will try another one. I liked the Son of Hamas book only because I am interested in Israel, this book kept me interested because I never knew what was going to happen next or how he was going to word it.

I flew home to Minnesota for the holidays and am glad to be blogging, but by now there is so much that has happened and nothing spectacular to write about that I have no idea where to start. Also, facebook has taken over the day to day stuff that I used to post about - and it reaches more people. I don't tend to write carefully thought out posts like some of you do. I need to rethink what I want this blog to do. Also I often wonder how much of my life I want to expose online and how much time to dedicate to blogging.

Work is very scarce in the valley where I live. I have been stressed out because I can't find enough work to sustain my extravagant lifestyle. I am relieved that I have a job lined up for the next two months. It is only filing, but it should be enough to get my car running better and new tires that I desperately need before it snows.

I rarely read any books anymore, but I am half way through "The Son of Hamas", a book writtien by the son of one of the founders of Hamas. It explains something about the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. It is incredible, I keep stopping to google people and events he is talking about. Truth is stranger than fiction.

I nearly mixed 8 cups of salt in a cherry jam recipe because I thought it was sugar.

I also dumped the remaining salt on top of a not quite empty canister of sugar, which rendered it useless. If salt looses its saltiness how can its saltiness be restored?
